'Greenest' IT Companies

leave a comment »

Nokia has been given the title of the greenest IT company by Greenpeace Guide to Greener Electronics. Fujitsu Siemens was second followed by Samsung.

IT companies at the botton of the pile are Nintendo and Microsoft. Nintendo had made no progress on dealing with e-waste and it still had no timeline in place for eliminating PVC in its products.

Microsoft recieved 17th place as a result of its failure to deal adequately with toxic chemicals and a timeline of 2010 for eliminating phthalates in its products.

Other low performers were Dell, Toshiba, HP, LG, Acer and Panasonic who all scored less than 5 points in guide. Lenovo and Apple are also low down with Apple being marked down for its failure to put in place a proper e-waste programme, though it did Apple did gain good marks for energy efficiency along with Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Samsung.
